Sequans’ Calliope LTE Platform, the world’s first and only Cat 1 (up to 10 Mbps) LTE chipset platform, has won an “IoT Innovations Award” from Connected World Magazine. According to Connected World, winning products were selected based on a variety of criteria, including most creative and technologically advanced products, services, and platforms. See press release here and winner web page here.
Calliope was developed by Sequans to answer the demand of M2M and IoT device makers for an LTE chipset solution that would work on today’s networks and allow devices to connect to the Internet of Things via LTE affordably thus solidifying the business cases for the wave of new devices now being invented. LTE is the only future-proof solution for IoT and M2M devices and with Calliope, Sequans has made it valid now, in advance of the availability of the coming Cat 0 solutions, expected in 2017.
Sequans Cat 1 LTE technology was recently tested in a network and device trial conducted by Verizon Wireless and Ericsson and proven viable. Cat 1 technology, which allows for significant reductions in size, cost, and power over Cat 3 and 4 counterparts, is compatible with existing networks and is expected to enable the rapid adoption of LTE technology in the Internet of Things, including machine-to-machine (M2M) and consumer wearable devices, where high throughput is not a key requirement.
