The French Tennis Federation and France Télévisions are joining with Orange (see press release) to inaugurate 4G multicast for Roland Garros 2014. Sequans is providing its technology in the form of demonstration LTE tablets powered by Sequans’ eMBMS-capable chips for this first live demo of 4G multicast in France. Live action from the tennis tournament will be delivered to the tablets over the course of the two weeks of the event, and visitors to the France Télévisions Innovation Stand, located at the RG Lab will be able to enjoy top quality LTE broadcast coverage of the tournament in progress, delivered over the Orange network deployed especially for this occasion. The tablets use Sequans Mont Blanc LTE Platform with middleware by Expway; Alcatel-Lucent is the provider of the infrastructure equipment.
Sequans LTE Broadcast with Orange
The demo shows the powerful capability of LTE broadcast and its ability to stream content to multiple users simultaneously without the delay or latency of the past. The technology is extremely useful for the broadcast of live sporting events such as the French Open.
