Sequans’ Calliope LTE CAT 1 chipset is inside the world’s first CAT 1 LTE module introduced today by Gemalto, the world leader in M2M and digital security. The Cinterion ELS31 module is specifically designed for machine-to-machine (M2M) and industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Sequans’ Calliope LTE Platform is the world’s first commercially available CAT 1 (10 Mbps) LTE chipset. It is an award winning solution, optimized for low cost/low power IoT and M2M devices, certified by Verizon Wireless, and deployable on today’s LTE networks.
This announcement follows an earlier partnership announcement by Sequans and Gemalto whereby the two companies agreed to integrate Sequans’ StreamliteLTE chipset platforms into a family of Gemalto wireless communication modules for the M2M and Internet of Things (IoT) markets. The Cinterion ELS31, based on Calliope, is the first module to become available under the agreement.
“The availability of this new CAT 1 module will be a boon to M2M and IoT device makers who now have an all-in-one LTE solution with optimized M2M and IoT features that make it not only quick and easy, but also cost-effective to add LTE connectivity to many types of devices where it was not cost effective before,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “Gemalto customers now have an excellent and future-proof solution for migrating 2G and 3G M2M devices to modern 4G LTE.”
