First use of Sequans’ new generation chip technology
TOKYO, EXPOCOMM WIRELESS JAPAN and CUPERTINO, Calif. — July 22, 2009 — Sequans Communications, the world’s leading WiMAX chipmaker, announced today that ZyXEL, a world leading supplier of broadband internet connectivity products, has introduced the first Mobile WiMAX device based on Sequans’ new generation chip, the SQN1210. ZyXEL’s new device, the MAX-507 USB dongle, is state-of-the-art, and delivers the highest performance yet achieved in a Mobile WiMAX USB device, due to Sequans’ unique mimoMAX™ technology. The ZyXEL MAX-507 USB will be on display at Sequans’ booth, D-068, at ExpoComm Wireless Japan, July 22-24.
The SQN1210 is the industry’s first Mobile WiMAX chip to integrate baseband and triple band RF in a single die. In addition to the marked performance improvement enabled by the industry’s highest level of integration, the SQN1210 features Sequans’ patent-pending mimoMAX™ technology, which combines a maximum likelihood decoder on the downlink with dual transmit channels on the uplink, a feature unique to Sequans that enables uplink MIMO, greatly increasing the link budget, which can be used to nearly double cell coverage and/or lower the power consumption and cost of mobile devices. ZyXEL’s implementation of Sequans’ technology has allowed it to deliver a Mobile WiMAX USB dongle that leads the industry in high performance and low cost.
“Sequans’ mimoMAX technology, specifically the dual transmit/uplink MIMO feature, has allowed us to deliver a 23 dBm USB dongle that performs equally as well as a 27 dBm, high end, desktop CPE,” said Dr. Yuh-Long Chen, ZyXEL’s president. “We are very pleased to deliver the MAX 507 as it gives users fully mobile access to the internet with faster speeds than competing products and gives operators the ability to increase cell coverage and performance because it supports MIMO in both directions.”
“ZyXEL continues to lead in bringing the top WiMAX devices to market,” said Dr. Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “The MAX 507 is stylish and tiny, yet very powerful, delivering the ultimate in mobile broadband connectivity.”
The MAX-507 2.5 GHz MIMO USB dongle is a state-of-art Mobile WiMAX solution. It supports 2Tx and 2Rx, MIMO Matrix A and B, 23 dBm transmission power per channel, and superior receiver sensitivity. Sleek and tiny, it features built-in, invisible antenna design, and auto-installation that lets users enjoy instant internet surfing the minute they plug it in. For operators, it supports over the air software upgrades via OMA-DM and five classes of QOS support.
The SQN1210 with its unprecedented high level of integration and its patent-pending mimoMAX technology provides substantial advantages to ODMs and OEMs as well as to WiMAX network operators. ODMs can build the highest performing, sleekest, and lowest cost Mobile WiMAX devices; operators can nearly double cell coverage and reduce infrastructure costs by up to 50 percent for the most efficient and economical network deployments.
