Sequans Supplies 4G WiMAX Chip For New HTC EVO Shift 4G Smartphone from Sprint

LAS VEGAS — January 6, 2011 (Consumer Electronics Show) — 4G chipmaker Sequans today announced that it is supplying 4G chips for the new HTC EVO Shift 4G smartphone from Sprint. The new smartphone combines the HTC Sense experience with the Android™ operating system and Sequans’ SQN1210 WiMAX chip. Sequans also supplied WiMAX chips for the first HTC EVO 4G smartphone launched by Sprint last spring.

This new HTC EVO Shift 4G smartphone is the follow-up product to the original HTC EVO 4G launched last spring to tremendous success and still one of the most popular smartphones in the market. The HTC EVO Shift 4G provides a compact and attractive design with a sliding QWERTY keyboard and boasts the power of 4G, Android 2.2, a 5MP camera, 720p HD camcorder and a 3.6-inch capacitive touchscreen display.

The 4G chip inside the HTC EVO Shift 4G is Sequans’ SQN1210, a highly integrated and powerful WiMAX system-on-chip. The chip is optimized for mobile handsets and delivers baseband and triple band RF integrated in a single, 65 nm die for ultra low power consumption and ultra high performance at a low cost. Sequans technology gives EVO users a number of enhancements over other smartphones, particularly much faster web browsing. The chip also features Sequans’ patent-pending dual transmit uplink technology, a technology pioneered by Sequans that can greatly improve 4G coverage and performance.

The HTC EVO Shift 4G runs on Sprint’s 4G network.
