Powered by Sequans, Mitsumi’s new Mobile WiMAX USB dongle achieves WiMAX Forum Certification
July 22, 2009

TOKYO, EXPOCOMM WIRELESS JAPAN and CUPERTINO, Calif. — July 22, 2009 — Sequans Communications, leading WiMAX chipmaker, announced that Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese electronics manufacturer, has achieved WiMAX Forum Certification™ for its new Mobile WiMAX USB dongle based on Sequans’ SQN1130 chip.  The device, which will be on display at ExpoComm Wireless Japan in Sequans’ booth, D-068, represents the latest in Mobile WiMAX internet access devices, featuring compact size, low power consumption, and high performance.

The device is powered by Sequans’ award-winning SQN1130 system-on-chip, a WiMAX Forum Certified™ solution that delivers industry-leading high throughput and low power consumption.  The chip’s high performance is a function of Sequans’ patent-pending mimoMAX™ technology that combines a maximum likelihood decoder on the downlink with two transmitters on the uplink, a feature unique to Sequans that enables uplink MIMO for significantly improved link budget and cell coverage.

“Sequans technology accelerated our development and enabled us to get the WiMAX Forum stamp of approval quickly,” said Koji Otani, chief engineer, Mitsumi Electric Co.  “Our new USB dongle is tiny and slick with very low power consumption and gives users quick and powerful access to the internet with minimal drain on battery power.”

Mitsumi Mobile WiMAX is a USB dongle that is in full compliance with the Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 profile based on the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard. It supports the 2.6GHz frequency band and high-speed access to the WiMAX network.
