TAIPEI — May 25, 2010 (Computex 2010) – Sequans Communications, leading WiMAX chipmaker, announced that Accton Wireless Broadband (AWB), a developer of Mobile WiMAX devices, has adopted Sequans chips for several new WiMAX products. Devices include a highly advanced USB dongle, and two integrated access devices. The devices will be on display at Computex Taipei, June 1-5, in Sequans’ booth number A418a.
The AWB USB dongle is state-of-the-art in WiMAX and features Sequans’ advanced 2Tx uplink technology that delivers powerful benefits to mobile operators and their customers. To the mobile operator, the technology delivers tremendous improvement in link budget for nearly double the cell coverage and greatly improved network entry performance, and for the end user, it delivers greatly improved indoor coverage and better throughput.
The AWB IADs include Ethernet and VoIP connections in a single device and the indoor model is easily self-installable by the end user. The IADs support line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight, 2X2 MIMO, dual-image software upgrade recovery mechanism, network discovery and selection (ND&S), and multiple frequency bands.
“Sequans’ advanced chip technology, including their powerful dual transmit uplink technology, contributes significantly to the high performance-over-cost value proposition of our WiMAX devices,” said Ray Lee, president of AWB. “Sequans is one of the key strategic partners of AWB and our collaboration enriches the product line that addresses demand for Sequans support among our operator customers.”
Sequans’ new generation SQN1200 series chips are the industry’s most highly integrated and advanced Mobile WiMAX solutions. In addition to the dual transmit uplink capability, the chips integrate baseband and triple band RF in a single 65nm for dramatically reduced cost, power consumption, and size. The integrated RF covers all three global WiMAX bands, 2.3, 2.5, and 3.5 GHz.
“AWB has developed and delivered excellent WiMAX devices,” said Georges Karam, Sequans’ CEO. “WiMAX is the perfect solution for many markets and the new devices offer users powerful and straightforward solutions for wireless broadband access.”
