The SQN1170 is a powerful and flexible Mobile WiMAX chip solution that enables the manufacture of the smallest of mobile devices such as mobile handsets, smartphones, and PDAs. It also targets embedded PC applications enabling WiMAX into MID and UMPC devices, as well as small form-factor PC accessories like USB dongles.

The SQN1170 simplifies the BOM and design cycle requiring minimum set of external components. It interfaces with third party front end modules (FEMs) to provide highly integrated solutions.

Based on the proven SQN1130 and SQN1140 WiMAX chipset and 128 Mbit low-power SDRAM, it ensures seamless transition from existing designs and compatibility with existing software stacks.

The SQN1170 is a high performance, low power solution with a high level of integration, combining in a single package advanced baseband functionality plus RF and SDRAM. The 1170 combines the functionality of Sequans’ award-winning SQN1130 baseband and SQN1140 RF chips, both compliant with the IEEE 802.16e standard, implementing MIMO plus all MAC and PHY features required for WiMAX Forum™ Wave 2 certification. The SQN1170 is delivered with S3MAX, Sequans’ comprehensive and flexible software package.

Full-featured MAC layer

SQN1170’s extremely effi cient MAC implementation is strategically partitioned between hardware and software to maximize available throughput and reduce power consumption. The complete WiMAX MAC protocol software runs on an embedded ARM9 processor, providing fl exibility, while the MAC hardware acceleration greatly enhances system performance and throughput. Complete support for mobility is provided, including handover, sleep mode, and idle mode.
