SQN1010: comprehensive, integrated

WIMAX FORUM CERTIFIED(TM) FIXED WiMAX SUBSCRIBER STATION SOC
The SQN1010 System-on-Chip (SoC) provides system manufacturers with a comprehensive and integrated IEEE 802.16-2004 compliant baseband solution to develop cost-effective WiMAX subscriber stations. Implementing in a single chip all MAC and PHY features required for WiMAX Forum Certified™ subscriber stations, it offers features beyond IEEE 802.16 standard requirements for increased performance. Included with the SQN1010 is a complete software package running on the embedded processor, enabling easy integration into customer designs and reducing time-to-market.

Key Benefits

Advanced PHY Layer
Sequans offers unique RF capabilities via a fully digital front end, integrating A/D and D/A converters, operating
with any channel width from 1.25 to 28 MHz. The SQN1010 enables superior RF performance through advanced
Digital Signal Processing techniques:

  • Robust synchronization algorithms for operation at very low SNR
  • Very low implementation margin
  • Full uplink subchannelization
  • Built-in support for smart antennas:
    - Transmit and receive switched diversity
    - Support of Space Time Coding (STC)

Full-featured MAC Layer
The SQN1010 SoC includes a powerful MAC layer optimally partitioned between hardware and software.
The software runs on a programmable processor providing fl exibility, while the MAC hardware acceleration
enhances system performance and throughput.
The MAC supports many options that increase system capacity and services capabilities, such as Payload
Header Suppression (PHS), Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ), multicast polling and advanced packet
classifi cation. Its QoS features guarantee system performance for real-time and non-real-time applications.
With the hardware acceleration, the SQN1010 SoC handles full air link capacity and with no practical limitation
on packet rates or number of subscribers.

Low Cost and Low Power
The SQN1010 SoC’s density and built-in dynamic power optimization techniques enable low-cost and lowpower
baseband solutions. It is targeted for feature-rich standalone CPEs as well as highly integrated terminals
that run all customer application software on the embedded processor.

Full and Flexible Software Package
Sequans delivers a full software package, comprised of hardware drivers, as well as MAC and scheduling
functions. The software is modular allowing system vendors to reuse their existing software modules and
expertise to differentiate their product offering, while still leveraging the performance and time to market
advantages offered by the Sequans’ modules. The software can be easily integrated with high-level software
applications using well defi ned API. It operates under VxWorks and Linux, and is portable to other real-time
operating systems.

Subscriber Station Reference Design
For customers wishing to evaluate Sequans’ technology as well as to initiate their own system development the
SQN1010-RD is a complete reference design based on the SQN1010 SoC. It includes drivers, MAC software
modules and hardware material: PCB with RF functions, SoC, memory, power supply, Ethernet and PCI ports.
