ANDREA GOLDSMITH AND EZIO BIGLIERI JOIN SEQUANS’ TECHNICAL ADVISORY BOARD

Internationally Recognized Academic Technology Leaders to Provide Expertise in Wireless Broadband Communication

Paris, France – July 12, 2005 — SEQUANS Communications, a fabless semi-conductor company in the WIMAX/WiBro space, today announced the addition Professor Andrea Goldsmith and Professor Ezio Biglieri to its Technical Advisory Board (TAB). Both academics are internationally recognized as communication experts and have published and presented numerous papers in the field of Digital Communications. Goldsmith and Biglieri join Hikmet Sari, SEQUANS Communications’ Chief Scientist, in providing Sequans’ executive management with key advice on product development strategies.

Andrea Goldsmith, Associate Professor at Stanford University and IEEE Fellow, brings extensive industrial and academic experience in the field of wireless systems. She is well-known for her pioneering contributions to adaptive modulation and coding, and is an expert on radio communications in fading environments. Her current research topics include multi-antenna systems (MIMO and Adaptive Antennas), power savings for handheld devices, as well as cross-layer wireless network design. Ezio Biglieri, Professor at Politecnico di Torino and IEEE Fellow, is a leading authority in Digital Communications. He has brought key contributions, in particular on the subject of Trellis Coded Modulation and advanced FEC coding schemes. Among his current topics of work is the study of multiuser MIMO systems.

“We are very fortunate and pleased to have Dr. Goldsmith and Professor Biglieri join our Technical Advisory Board,' said Georges Karam, SEQUANS Communications CEO. “Their expertise and advice will be of great help to face the technical challenges of building the first commercial mobile system based on OFDMA”

The Technical Advisory Board provides a diversity of technical expertise and perspective which parallel the focus and future direction of Sequans Communications.

Dr. Andrea Goldsmith
Andrea Goldsmith is a renowned expert in the field of wireless communications. She received her Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1994. She is an associate professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University, and was previously at the California Institute of Technology. She has also held industry positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories and Maxim Technologies. She is an IEEE Fellow, Vice-Chair for the Communication Theory Committee of ComSoc, and a BoG member of the IEEE Information Theory Society. She has been an editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications and the IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine. She has also served on the technical program committee, executive committee, and as technical program chair for numerous IEEE conferences. Her book, Wireless Communications, will be published by Cambridge University Press in 2005.

Professor Ezio Biglieri
Ezio Biglieri is currently Professor of Electrical Engineering at Politecnico di Torino. He has been an IEEE Fellow since 1989, and is a recognized expert in the field of digital communications. He received his Dr. Engr. degree in 1967 from Politecnico di Torino (Italy), and became Professor at University of Napoli in 1975. Since then he has been a Professor at Politecnico di Torino (current position), University of California, as well as a regular visitor to prestigious Labs and Universities such as the Bell Labs, UCLA, or Princeton. He was President of the IEEE Information Theory Society in 1999, is a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Information Theory Society and the IEEE Communications Society and has served as Editor for IEEE journals. He received prestigious awards, in particular the IEEE Third-Millennium Medal in 2000, the “IEEE Donald G. Fink Prize Paper Award” in 1999, and the 'Journal of Communications and Networks Best Paper Award' in 2004. His latest book, Coding for Wireless Channels, was published by Springer in 2005.
