SEQUANS COMMUNICATIONS JOINS THE WIMAX FORUM!

Paris, France – April 27, 2004 — SEQUANS Communications, a fabless semi-conductor company created in 2003, has just joined the WiMAX Forum as a principal member. SEQUANS delivers System-on-Chip and Software solutions, addressing both Base Station and Subscriber Station products with the complete IEEE 802.16 PHY and MAC layers supported by the WiMAX Forum.

The WiMAX Forum is a consortium of nearly 100 manufacturers that have joined forces in a strategic alliance with the aim of defining, standardizing, developing, integrating and marketing end-to-end Broadband Wireless Access solutions. The first WiMAX-Certified™ products are expected to appear on the market in 2005.

“The entire SEQUANS Communications team is pleased to be joining the WiMAX Forum and offering its experience as a provider of Broadband Wireless Access technology,” says Georges Karam, President and CEO of SEQUANS Communications. “We believe that our previous experience in cable access and the DOCSIS certification process will offer potential benefits to the WiMAX Forum. As a principal member, we will be fully engaged supporting the Forum’s activities.”

WiMAX stands out for its technical performance and attractive deployment costs. WiMAX-Certified™ systems will have a typical range of 7-10 km and will offer transfer rates of up to 75 Mbits per second in a 20 MHz channel. Moreover, thanks to the WiMAX Forum's efforts to ensure interoperability among vendors, WiMAX-Certified™ equipment will be competitively priced.

“We are delighted to have SEQUANS Communications on board as one of our principal members,” says Ron Resnick, President of the WiMAX Forum. “Dynamic young firms such as SEQUANS will be a welcome addition to the promising market that will emerge with the advent of WiMAX.”
